Ottoman TV Beds vs Fixed TV Beds: Which Is Right for You?

Ottoman TV Beds vs Fixed TV Beds: Which Is Right for You?

If you have been searching for a TV Bed for some time, you won't be surprised to learn that there is a multitude of options available. TV Bed with speakers? TV Bed with 4.1 surround sound? An adjustable TV Bed? Or something simpler? A key decision that buyers will need to make is whether they want a TV Bed with or without storage. So, in this piece, we’ll look at the pros and cons of a TV Bed that comes with or without an ottoman (another way of saying storage).

The case for an Ottoman TV Bed

The obvious win for an Ottoman TV bed is the extra storage space you gain. This point becomes particularly acute in smaller bedrooms, perhaps without the option for built-in or extra wardrobes. There is also an economic argument here - a decent wardrobe will set you back several hundred pounds. What if the space you gain negates the need for that? Also, most Ottoman TV beds will come with a gas-powered operating system, which makes them super easy to open and close.

The other benefits of buying an ottoman TV bed are the same as any other TV Bed:

  • People who don’t want the TV on show all the time (on a chest of drawers or the wall)

  • No horrible wires

  • A cleaner aesthetic when the TV is not in use

The case for a fixed TV bed

Obviously, if you don’t need the extra storage, a fixed TV bed is going to be perfect. Perhaps you want a TV bed for a spare room (or perhaps a second home?). Fixed TV beds (without speakers, like The VOX) generally come at a lower price than an ottoman TV bed. A fixed TV Bed is a great solution for people who watch TV in bed regularly, and where storage isn’t a priority.

How to decide which TV bed is right for you

To help decide which TV bed you need, you might want to answer the following questions.

In the room where you are looking to situate the TV bed, what’s the storage situation? If you have extra space available in your wardrobe, you may not need an ottoman.

Do you have kids or pets? Obviously, Ottoman TV beds are completely safe but are button-operated. This could be a consideration with little people (or animals) regularly visiting the bedroom.

Is the TV bed going to be in your room or a guest room? If the room is used less frequently and storage isn’t an issue, perhaps a standard or fixed TV bed will be adequate for your needs.

What to look for in either type of TV bed

Most TV beds are compatible with a 32” TV bed. If you have a larger TV, always check the manufacturer's guidelines before investing, unless you intend to buy a new TV also. Always check the dimensions of any TV bed; they’re often larger than a standard bed - this becomes especially important if you are buying a king or a super king TV bed. Then obviously check the warranty and guarantee that comes with the bed. And, crucially, remember what your parents or grandparents told you - buy cheap and buy twice.
