USB Bed - Why a TV Bed Is the Best Way to Charge in Bed

If you've been searching for a USB bed, you're after a bed frame with charging ports built in, so your phone, tablet or headphones can charge right where you sleep. No extension leads trailing across the floor, no stretching down the back of the bedside table in the dark.

It's a small feature, but once you've had it, it's hard to go back. And it's one that comes as standard on a lot of our TV Beds, alongside the built-in TV lift and surround sound. Of course we're a TV Bed Specialist, but here's the lowdown on beds with USB's and a little deep dive on our TV Beds that come with them.

Why a bed with USB charging makes sense

Most of us charge our phones overnight, and most bedrooms weren't designed with that in mind. Plug sockets end up behind the bed or on the wrong side of the room, so cables get stretched, tangled or trodden on.

A bed with USB ports built into the frame or headboard fixes that. Your charger lives in the bed itself, on both sides, so each person has their own. It keeps bedside tables clear, cuts down on adaptors and makes the whole room look tidier.

It's also handy for more than phones. Wireless earbuds, smartwatches, e-readers and game controllers can all top up while you're watching TV in bed.

What to look for in a USB bed

Not all charging ports are the same, so it's worth checking a few things before you buy.

  • USB-A or USB-C? USB-C is the newer, smaller connector used by most recent phones and tablets. USB-A is the older, wider one that a lot of cables and accessories still use. A bed with both gives you the most flexibility.
  • Ports on both sides. If you share the bed, make sure there's charging on each side so nobody has to pass their phone across.
  • Where the ports sit. Ports on the headboard or bed side are easy to reach without getting up. Ports tucked under the frame are tidier but fiddlier to use.
  • What else is built in. A USB bed is often part of a wider tech package, such as a TV lift, speakers or lighting. If you want those too, it usually works out simpler and better value to get them in one bed.
  • Our TV beds with USB charging

We think a TV bed is the best USB bed you can buy, because the charging comes alongside everything else you'd want for watching TV in bed. These are the beds in our range with USB charging built in.

USB bed FAQs

Can I add USB ports to a bed I already have?

You can buy clip-on or plug-in charging units, but they still need a cable to a wall socket and rarely look neat. A bed with charging built in keeps everything hidden inside the frame.

Is it safe to leave my phone charging overnight in the bed?

Modern phones stop drawing power once they're full, and the ports in our beds are part of the bed's built-in electrics. As with any charger, use a good quality cable and don't leave devices buried under pillows or duvets.

Do the USB ports need a separate plug?

The charging runs from the bed's own power supply, so you don't need a separate adaptor for each port. Depending on the model, the bed's tech needs one or two plugs at the wall in total.

Do all your TV beds have USB charging?

Not all of them. The beds listed above all do, and you can check the details on each product page or ask us in the showroom.
