TV Bed Fact

Not all TV beds are the same

A TV lift is only the beginning. TV beds can range from a simple hidden TV to models with ottoman storage, voice control, 2.1, 4.1 and 5.1 surround sound, through to licensed Dolby Atmos and DTS:X technology. The right one depends on what you want your TV bed to do.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a TV bed and how does it work?

A TV bed has a television lift built into the footboard. At the press of a button, the TV rises when you want to watch it and lowers back inside the bed when you're finished. Depending on the model, TV beds can also include built-in sound systems, storage, USB charging, lighting, voice control and other technology.

What size TV can I put in a TV bed?

Most of our TV beds accommodate a TV up to 43 inches, although this can vary between models. It's important to check the maximum TV dimensions and weight for the individual bed rather than relying on screen size alone.

What's the difference between 2.1, 4.1, 5.1 and 5.1.2 sound?

These numbers describe the audio channel configuration. 2.1 uses left and right channels with a subwoofer, while 4.1 and 5.1 add additional surround channels. 5.1 includes a dedicated centre channel, and 5.1.2 adds two height channels. They describe the audio configuration – not simply how many physical speakers are inside the bed.

Does speaker placement matter in a TV bed?

Yes. You're listening from a very specific position in a TV bed, so where the speakers are placed matters. Different models use different layouts, with speakers positioned in the headboard, front or sides of the footboard. The number of visible speakers alone doesn't tell you how the sound system performs – the channels, technology and placement all matter.

What's the difference between surround sound, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X?

Traditional 2.1, 4.1 and 5.1 systems use two-dimenional channel-based audio. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X are object-based audio technologies designed to position and move compatible sounds in three-dimensional space. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X are licensed technologies; manufacturers must be authorised to use their technology and branding.

How do I choose the right TV bed?

Think about what you actually want from your bed. Consider the bed size, TV compatibility, storage and design first, then the technology that's important to you. Our range goes from straightforward TV beds through to multimedia models with 2.1, 4.1 and 5.1 sound, plus more advanced models featuring Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, voice control and other technology.
