What to expect when we install your TV bed

Buying a TV bed isn’t just a purchase; it’s an upgrade to how you relax. These beds combine the comfort of traditional craftsmanship with the innovation of modern home tech. But if you’re new to TV beds, the installation and setup can feel like a mystery. Here’s what really happens from checkout to that first movie night.

Step 1: Measuring Up Before You Buy

Before ordering, take time to measure your space. TV beds are larger and heavier than standard frames, so accurate room dimensions are essential. You’ll need enough clearance at the foot of the bed for the TV lift mechanism to rise smoothly, and a bit of wall space behind for ventilation and wiring access.

Most customers underestimate the footprint, especially with ottoman models that lift for storage. A simple rule of thumb: allow at least 40cm between the foot of the bed and your nearest wall or furniture. If you’re buying a king-size or super king-size frame, double-check doorways and stairwells too. There’s nothing worse than a luxury bed that won’t make it up the stairs - we hate to see the look of disappointment on people's faces when this happens!

Step 2: Delivery and Access

Once you’ve ordered, TV Beds Northwest’s team will contact you to arrange delivery.  TV beds arrive in multiple sections to make moving and assembly straightforward, and deliveries are handled by a two-person team experienced in manoeuvring large furniture.

You’ll be asked about parking, access routes, and whether you’d like your TV bed installed. If your bedroom’s upstairs, clear the space beforehand, move lamps, rugs, or side tables to give the installers room to work safely.

Step 3: Professional Assembly

Professional installation is worth every penny. The bed frame, mattress platform, lift mechanism, and electronics all need careful assembly. TV Beds Northwest engineers are trained to handle both mechanical and electrical components, ensuring the system operates quietly and safely.

The process begins with the frame: the side rails and headboard are aligned and fixed. Then the TV lift unit is installed at the footboard, calibrated to lift and lower smoothly. Once the television is mounted, the cabling is tucked neatly through the internal channels, keeping everything hidden from sight.

A typical installation takes 60–90 minutes, depending on the model and room layout. For Ottoman beds, the gas-lift struts and storage base are assembled last. Before the team leaves, they’ll run a full test, raising and lowering the TV, checking remotes, and demonstrating basic operation and instructing you as to how to ‘drive’ your new TV bed.

Step 4: Setting Up Your Tech

Your TV bed is compatible with most modern televisions, though many models come with a TV.  If you’re using your own, ensure it meets the recommended size range — typically 32–43 inches for a double or king-size frame.

Once powered, the installer will guide you through connecting streaming boxes, consoles, or sound systems. Many of TV Beds Northwest’s premium models include surround-sound speakers, USB ports, and Bluetooth connectivity. Keep a four-way extension lead handy if you plan to connect multiple devices.

If you prefer a minimal setup, most beds allow single-cable routing, so only one plug feeds the entire unit. The aim is a tidy, cable-free look that keeps your bedroom feeling calm.

Step 5: Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Once installed, TV beds are remarkably low-maintenance. The lift mechanism is powered by a motor designed for thousands of cycles, but it’s worth operating the TV once a week to keep the motor active and dust-free.

Avoid overloading the ottoman base with heavy items, and check that the TV has adequate ventilation. Modern LED sets generate less heat than plasma screens, but airflow still matters. If the lift ever feels sluggish or the remote stops responding, replacing the batteries or power-cycling the unit usually resolves it.

Step 6: Enjoying the Upgrade

The first night you settle into your new TV bed, you’ll realise why they’ve become the centrepiece of so many modern bedrooms. With hidden wiring, built-in audio, and seamless operation, a TV bed turns your space into a private cinema without the clutter.

It’s more than a luxury purchase; it’s practical, elegant, and surprisingly easy to live with. By understanding the installation process upfront, you’ll avoid surprises and get to the good part faster, curling up under the covers, pressing that lift button, and watching your favourite show rise into view.
