Where Should I Put My TV Bed? The Best Positioning Tips for Style and Comfort

When designing your bedroom, one of the biggest decisions is where to position your bed. It's not just about what looks good – it’s about creating a space that feels good too. And when you’ve got a TV bed, there are a few more things to consider to get the most out of your setup.

Whether you’re planning a full bedroom makeover or just having a move-around, here’s your guide to finding the perfect spot.

1. Start With the Focal Point

Most people naturally place their bed on the wall you see first when you walk in — and there’s good reason for that. It grounds the room visually and helps you frame everything else around it.

But when you’ve got a TV bed, think about:

  • Where the TV will rise from (footend)
  • What your viewing angles are like
  • Where plug sockets are located

If your bed is facing a window, you may want to consider glare and whether blackout blinds are needed.

2. Think About Viewing Comfort

TV beds are made for comfort — we’re talking movie nights, boxset marathons, and lazy Sunday lie-ins. So it’s worth thinking about:

  • Distance from your eyes to the TV screen (aim for around 6–8 feet for a 43” screen)
  • Line of sight — you want to be looking straight ahead, not twisting your neck
  • Room shape — is there space behind the bed for access if it’s an ottoman model?

Most of our customers place their TV beds in the centre of the longest wall in the room, allowing a clear path for opening ottoman storage and a clean, clutter-free line of sight to the TV.

3. Make Plug Sockets Work for You

This bit gets overlooked a lot. TV beds, like our Edge or Titan, need access to:

  • A plug socket for the motorised TV lift
  • A socket for the TV itself
  • Any charging ports or mood lighting features

Ideally, these should be behind or beside the bed, not across the room with messy trailing wires. If you’re redecorating, now’s a great time to move or add sockets before committing to a final bed position.

4. Avoid Blocking Doors & Windows

This sounds obvious, but sometimes it’s not until the bed’s in place that you realise the door barely opens or your wardrobe drawers won’t pull out fully.

When planning your layout:

  • Measure the full bed frame, including headboard and footend
  • Factor in space needed for storage access (especially if it lifts)
  • Make sure you can walk comfortably around both sides — especially important in shared bedrooms

5. Work With the Room’s Natural Light

We all love a lie-in, but if you’re a light sleeper, you may want to avoid putting your headboard directly under a window. Light, draughts, and noise can all affect your sleep.

Instead, use your TV bed to your advantage. With the footend acting as a focal point, you can position the bed in a way that controls light while keeping your screen at the perfect angle.

6. Don’t Forget the Flow

A well-placed bed makes a bedroom feel calm and uncluttered. The right position:

  • Leaves enough walking space
  • Balances the room visually
  • Feels natural when you walk in

If it feels awkward, it probably is.

And Finally… Test It Out First

Before you commit to lifting, shifting, and plugging in your TV bed, lay out the space using masking tape or boxes. See how it feels. Can you open your wardrobe? Walk around? Watch TV without neck ache?

Final Thoughts

With a bit of planning, your TV bed can be the heart of your bedroom – stylish, comfortable, and perfectly positioned. If you're unsure, we’re always happy to chat layouts in our showroom. Or better yet, pop in and see The Edge or Titan in action — it makes all the difference.
