Will the VOX fit? A Small Double Buying Guide for 2026

Most TV bed guides focus on features. Buyers in small double bedrooms usually care about space. Will it fit. Will you still be able to move around the room? Will doors and drawers work. If you are considering the VOX TV bed in a small double, this is the practical check to do before you buy.

Why a small double TV bed is harder to place than a normal bed

A standard bed is mainly a footprint. A TV bed is a footprint plus more visual and physical presence at the foot end, along with movement and clearance considerations. In a small double bedroom, that extra bulk can turn a workable layout into a squeezed corridor if you do not plan for it.

Three things usually cause problems:

  • You need at least one sensible route around the bed
  • Foot end clearance, a TV bed typically feels heavier at the bottom of the bed
  • Opening space  for storage, bedroom doors, wardrobes, and drawers

The five measurements that decide whether you can buy the VOX

Do not measure the room once and guess. Measure for real use.

1) Headboard wall width

Measure the actual usable wall where the headboard will sit. Radiators, sockets, skirting and nearby furniture steal space. This decides whether the bed can sit centred or needs to be offset.

2) Room depth (headboard to opposite wall)

This is the big one. You want the bed in place and still have enough clearance at the foot end so the space does not feel jammed. If you already struggle to stand at the foot of the current bed, a TV bed is unlikely to feel more spacious unless you change the layout.

3) Walkway on the main side

In many small doubles, one side of the bed ends up tight to a wall. That can be fine. What matters is keeping one side as a clean travel path so the bedroom stays livable. If you cannot walk past the bed without turning sideways, the layout needs changing.

4) Door swing and pinch points

Open the bedroom door fully and watch where the arc lands. Then check wardrobes and drawers. If you enter the room and immediately hit the bed zone, treat that as a warning sign. The bed might fit, but day to day use could be frustrating.

5) Anything that needs to be opened near the bed

Drawers, wardrobe doors, bedside units, and any storage you rely on daily. In small rooms, the question is rarely “does it fit.” It is “can I still use the room without constantly shuffling furniture.”

Layouts that usually work with the VOX small double

Bed tight to one wall (most common, often best)

This layout saves space and protects your main walkway. Plan for one proper bedside area rather than trying to force two bulky units into a tight room. Wall lights or a slim wall shelf can give you function without eating floor space.

Bed centred (only if the room is wide enough)

Centred looks balanced but it costs you space. If you go this route, keep furniture slim and avoid putting storage units in the travel path, especially at the foot end.

Under a window (sometimes necessary)

It can work, but check radiators, curtain drop and sockets. Comfort and practicality beat symmetry every time. A headboard under a window can also affect how you handle blinds and curtains, so treat it as a trade-off, not a default.

Delivery and access checks (do not leave this until after you buy)

Your bedroom is not the only constraint. Stairs, landings, door widths and tight turns matter too. Before ordering, check the VOX delivery details and packaging information if available, then measure your narrowest bits. The tight turn at the top of the stairs catches more people out than the straight run.
